About me
I am qualified to work with both individual clients and couples and offer both long term psychodynamic counselling as well as short term solution focused therapy. I include the techniques of CBT within my work, rather than using it as a stand alone way of working.
Qualifications
I qualified as a counsellor after gaining my post graduate diploma in psychodynamic counselling from Goldsmiths College in London (part of the University of London), in September 2006. This kind of counselling encourages us to think about how we respond and behave and the reasons behind this.
In 2007 I also trained to work specifically using a solution focused approach, this approach allows us to focus on an agreed area of concern. The counselling takes place over 12 sessions.
I am currently studying Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which offers a variety of tools and techniques that can help us face many of the issues we face today
Experience
Since qualifying I have worked in a variety of different settings, within the Brighton and Hove area, gaining a wealth of experience to compliment my training.
- I worked for a year in a school as a parent counsellor offering support and help to parents who face a number of problems that particularly affect their ability to successfully parent.
- I worked for 2 ½ years with young people facing a number of issues, self harming, eating disorders, anger management and low self esteem amongst others at the Youth Advice Centre (YAC) in Hove
- For the past three years I have worked for a primary health care trust (PCT) seeing clients, who are referred by their G.P. These clients come with a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety and the effects of low self esteem.
- I have a private practice where I work with couples and individuals on a long term or fixed contract basis.
